Konqueror, Nautilus, klipper and terminal emulator

1. Regarding Konqueror the file manager?
a. What is Konqueror?
Konqueror is a powerful file manager and browser for KDE desktops. It is like Internet Explorer for Windows, but improved!
b. List 4 thing that you can do with Konqueror?
• Surf the internet
• Manage local files
• Execute programs
• Manage FTP addresses (remote files)
c. How do you use Konqueror to search for a file?
Kfind is the tool we need to use in order to find a file using Konqueror. To find kfind just go to “Konqueror menubar:tools—find file”
2. What is a terminal emulator? What does it allow you to do from a GUI that you would not be able to do without one?
It is character-based textual windows displayed in a graphical environment (105) .With it you can “communicate” with the “shell” (command interpreter). It is important when communicating with Linux if you want to execute specifics commands.
3. What is klipper? How do you use it to cut and paste text?
Klipper is a clipboard utility. More than just cutting and pasting from multiple buffers, it also can execute commands. To copy is just necessary highlight text and automatically klipper will transfer the material to one of its buffer. To paste, open de klipper, select the text you want to paste and with the middle-click paste it. The text will be where the cursor is.
4. . What is Nautilus?
Nautilus is a file manager for the GNOME desktops.
a. List two ways that you can use to open a file using Nautilus.
You can open files with double-click or “open” from the pop-up menu. There are two ways that files are displayed; one is using the “spartial” view and the other is the “File browser” view. Spartial opens a window for each folder; the “traditional” or “file browser” opens different bars and panes.
b. How does Nautilus “know” which program to use to open different types of file?
Nautilus use MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension) to find out which is the appropriate program to open a specific file. It is like a data-base that holds all the files extension that can be handle.
c. What are the three commonly used Nautilus control bars? What kinds of tools do you find on each?
The three control bars are: Menubar, toolbar and location bar. The Menubar display different option depending on whatever is on the view panel. In the toolbar we can find the navigation buttons (back, stop, home, etc). And finally, the location bar that shows the directory of whatever that is being displayed in the view panel.
d. Discuss the use of the Nautilus location bar.
The Nautilus location bar shows the pathname directory which it is really helpful when it is necessary to know the specific location of the files.
